Landscape gardening is like painting a picture. The gardener has to take what is in his mind that and ensure that the garden ends being similar to it once the landscaping is over. Having an open lawn space is beautiful and restful. However, when one is landscaping, he ends up putting too many trees and flower beds giving an overall experience of clutter and chaos.

Just having a single tree or a small group of trees has a completely different effect provided the tree or trees is not centered in the garden. When choosing trees, make sure you select one that has interesting bark, leaves, flowers or fruits. Although many people love to choose poplars for their gardens, they forget that it sheds it leaves early and end up standing in your garden looking bare and ugly before fall is halfway through.

Even the place where you are going to plant the tree makes a difference in the selection process. If the ground is low and moist, it will be an ideal spot for a willow. Do not group trees that are different. In other words, do not club long trees with short rounded ones. And do not plant evergreen trees close to the house or in the front yard. It will have a gloomy effect on your home.

Just like you spend time on choosing trees to plant, you should spend time on shrubs too. It is a good idea to have different clumps of shrubs of out which some bloom early, some late, some you should plant for their fall foliage and other for either the color of their bark or fruit. Some shrubs should only be used for hedges. There is no doubt that a hedge is more beautiful than an ordinary fence. The Californian privet is excellent shrub to use for a hedge.

Landscape gardening can be formal or informal. If you use formal arrangement, you will have straight paths, straight rows with everything being formal and stiff. Informal arrangement is the exact opposite. A path in your garden should always lead somewhere and having a straight path is the best unless you can make a beautiful curve. Cover the path with gravel or dirt to give the finishing touches. You can add a border to the path by planting flowers. Imagine a colorful blaze of daffodils, hyacinth, tulips and snowdrops. It will completely change the way your home looks.
